When a white supremacist murders blacks or Jews, no one doubts that his murders are driven by his hateful, bigoted ideology. When homophobes attack a gay youth, we rightly label this a hate crime.

But when a man filled to overflowing with hatred of women acts upon this hatred and launches a killing spree targeting women, many people find it hard to accept that his violence has anything to do with his misogyny. They’re quick to blame it on practically anything else they can think of – guns, video games, mental illness – though none of these things in themselves would explain why a killer would target women.

Counter culture movement

The counter culture movement was very popular in the 60’s and 70’s because of the war and the way the youth say there parents suffer from depression. This was the generation that was all about sex, drugs, and music. The name these people got where hippies. They didn’t follow the social norm and instead decide to live of nature and in comunes. They shared food,housing,cloths, and partners. They would even help raise each others children. This looked like a good life but when you’re constantly doing drugs you have a way of losing your mind. The hippie movement was destroyed because of the abuse of drugs and many great artist lost there lives because they wanted to live like that.

Feminist movement

During the 60’s and 70’s the second wave of feminism appeared. The first wave happened in the 1920’s. It was started so that women could have the right to vote, when they got what they wanted the movement stopped. Second wave feminism was directed towards laws that would help women in the work place. Such as the equal pay act which made it law that men and women would get played the same amount for working the same job. There where also other laws that made it illegal to hire a women for the men’s viewing pleasure. There is a third wave feminist movement that is directed at ending the overly sexualization of women and ending the violence towards women.

Civil Rights Movement

During the 1950s and 1960s the civil movement was happening. They’re were many leader’s that supported and helped the cause move along. The most famous was Martin Luther King Jr. He helped plan the Bus boycotts that where very effective in desegregating the public busses. Martin Luther King Jr was not the only Civil Rights leader thou they’re where many such as Malcolm x or Rosa Parks. Malcolm X was a civil rights leader who wanted to use force to gain the people his rights. Rosa Parks contrary to the myth was a active Civil rights leader. When she was arrested for not wanting to give up her seat , it was not because she was exhausted and couldn’t move she was tired of being discriminated against and deciede she would not give in. These leaders where the reason people where able to get the rights they deserved all along
